German volleyball team refused to play against China due to positive cases of Covid-19

On Thursday, June 23, 2022, the Associated Press media outlet released the news that the German men's volleyball team refused to play against China because newa came up that days before some of their opponents tested positive for Covid-19.

Given the circumstances, the German team had to face a defeat even though the German federation highlighted that 21 members of the Chinese delegation had tested positive before the match they did request a PCR test from the players, however the organizers abided by local health regulations.

The Germans mentioned their concern that some of their athletes will have a positive test, as it will prevent the team from traveling to Japan for matches that start in that country on July 5, 2022.

The International Volleyball Federation said in a statement that the men's Volleyball Nations League match in the Philippines was canceled, despite the Chinese athletes receiving a permit from local authorities after testing positive.
