Costa Rica will have representation at the 2022 World Powerlifting Championships

Pride! Costa Rican athletes will represent the country in the The World Open Powerlifting Championship will take place from November 14th to 20th in Viborg, Denmark.

The athletes who will participate in the European country are:

  • Manolo Campos in the +120 kg category
  • Michael Fernández in the 93 kg category
  • Andres Soto 93 kg

Also, Zelmira Sandí will accompany them as team manager , and she will be a judge in the 93 kg group A category.

We spoke with athlete Manolo Campos and he told us that this would be his 13th World Championship, his first was in 2012 and he is very excited to be able to represent the country.

"I feel very motivated, thank God in all the world championships I have been climbing positions until being nominated third in the world with a clear option for a total medal," Campos said.

Campos stated that his preparation has been very intense, however he has been improving little by little each day.

"The preparation has been very intense, very demanding, improving very specific technical aspects day by day to maximize results during competition."

There is a pretty strong possibility that Campos will become world champion in the deadlift category , and that makes the competition very different for him and his sporting life.

"It's not the same to compete for a medal or a fifth place, as it is to have a real chance at a medal in the world championship, the most important powerlifting event of the year."

Currently, no Latin American athlete has reached the podium in an Open in the super heavyweight category. We wish the best of luck to all the Costa Rican athletes preparing for this great competition.
