Costa Rica vs Germany: Historic! For the first time, a woman will referee a match in a men's World Cup

Historic! What until now seemed impossible has become a reality and a great source of pride worldwide. For the first time, a woman will referee a match in a men's World Cup. It is the Frenchwoman Stéphanie Frappart, who will be in charge of the Costa Rica vs. Germany match.

The Qatar 2022 World Cup continues to surprise the world. This Tuesday, November 29, FIFA announced that Frappart would be the main referee this Thursday at 1 pm, in a country that is questioned for its treatment of women.

Frappart will also feature the participation of its assistants: Brazilian Neuza Back and Mexican Karen Díaz.

"Making history! This Thursday, an all-female trio of referees will take charge of a men's #FIFAWorldCup match for the first time," FIFA wrote on Instagram.

Before taking on the job as main referee in the Germany-Costa Rica match, the Frenchwoman had served as fourth official in two matches of this World Cup, in the Mexico-Poland and Portugal-Ghana matches.
