Dave Castro returns to the world of CrossFit
Five months after being dismissed as General Manager of Sports at CrossFit Inc, Dave Castro will return to the company, where people had been requesting his return for months.
Dave himself confirmed the news on June 9, 2022, during a company general meeting, and also highlighted that he was excited to return to his former job.
“I feel very honored, I appreciate the opportunity and I am excited,” Castro said during the meeting.
In his new role, Castro said he wants to help “take CrossFit to the next level.” The key to this, Castro said, is strengthening the core of CrossFit: its affiliates.
To that end, over the past few months, he has visited gyms in the United States, met with owners and trainers, and listened to their opinions on “where they go and how they feel,” Castro explained.

According to information published on the official CrossFit website, CrossFit GYM General Manager Gary Gaines said, “I couldn’t be more excited to have Dave back in this capacity. His commitment to CrossFit and, more importantly, to our affiliates, is undeniable. Leveraging his expertise and creativity will help us support our affiliate owners and continue building on what is already the strongest community in the world.”
In January 2022, Dave was fired by CrossFit CEO Eric Roza. For over 15 years, Castro had been CrossFit's sole general manager of sports. Roza explained that the decision to fire him stemmed from the company's future plans, which, in his opinion, were not a good fit for Dave.
