Two Costa Rican women have reached the #1 spot in the world jiu-jitsu ranking
Costa Rican pride! Brazilian jiu-jitsu athletes Daniela Alfaro Stivalet and Katherin Arias Pérez have been ranked as the best in the world in their respective divisions, as confirmed by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation.
Alfaro dominates the ranking of brown belt masters in the middleweight category, in the no-kimono modality, and has a total of 189 points, which he obtained thanks to his outstanding participation in international tournaments.
On the other hand, Katherin leads the list of purple belt masters in the light featherweight category without kimono, and maintains a total of 261 points thanks to her great participation in international competitions.
In early December 2022, both athletes were crowned world champions without kimono in California, United States, which allowed them to rise and obtain the #1 position in the world ranking in their categories.
In recent years the competitive level of national jiu-jitsu has been constantly rising, with more and more Costa Ricans becoming lovers of this great sport.
