Congratulations! Costa Rican cyclist becomes national champion for the seventh consecutive time
Congratulations! Abigail Recio Carvajal, just 21 years old, became the national track cycling champion for the seventh time.
The athlete finished first in the country in the Keirin and 500m Time Trial events, and also took first place on the podium in the Individual Speed 200m with a national record of 11.802, the previous record being 12.091 in 2021.
Abigail has become one of the best athletes both nationally and internationally. Last year, she finished fifth across the Americas in the Keirin event at the 2022 Junior Pan American Games.
Thanks to her great effort, the Costa Rican is getting closer to qualifying for the world championships, having accumulated 100 points in the UCI (International Cycling Union) ranking.
The cyclist is currently competing in the Pan American Track Cycling Championship , an event taking place in Lima, Peru.
On social media, Abigail expressed her gratitude to all the people who have accompanied her during this great journey.
"Thanks to the @comiteolimpicocr for the support that allowed me to be present at my national competition and also to be back in Medellín to finish my preparation for the Pan American Games...", the athlete wrote.
