Historic! Alexia Putellas becomes the first woman to win two consecutive Ballon d'Or awards

Congratulations! Spanish player Alexia Putellas has won her second Ballon d'Or of the 2021-2022 season, making her the first woman to achieve this feat.

The FC Barcelona player stood out as the best player in the Champions League, despite her team's 3-1 defeat to Olympique Lyon in the final. The 28-year-old was the tournament's top scorer .

On an individual level, Putellas played a total of 43 games in which she scored 34 goals and provided 21 assists, being the third highest scorer and highest assister in the League and the top scorer and MVP of the Champions League.

"I'm so happy to be back here, so pleased. When I won my first one a year ago, I set out to improve on that year and put it at the service of the team, and to see it rewarded in this way makes me proud. Without a doubt, without my teammates this wouldn't be possible, I wouldn't be here. I appreciate them so much and it's a privilege to be their teammate... It's a privilege to play for Barcelona," the Spaniard expressed during her speech upon receiving the Ballon d'Or.
