Historic! Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy ranks among the top 5 best surfers in the world

Costa Rican pride! Surfer Brisa Hennessy positioned herself among the top 5 surfers in the world and secured her official ticket to the 2022 World Tour final, after defeating American Lakey Peterson in the quarterfinals at the Outerknown Tahiti Pro.

In the final of this great competition, the Costa Rican was crowned runner-up. With this great achievement, she was able to qualify for the semifinals of the 2022 world ranking and add 6085 points.

According to data provided by La Jornada.cr, Brisa became the first Hispanic American surfer in history to reach a Tour final. However, although Peruvian Sofía Mulánovich had won the world title in 2004, the ranking system was different back then.

The grand finale of the 2022 World Tour will take place in California, USA, from September 8 to 16.

The 22-year-old athlete expressed her gratitude on social media for all the support and affection she received. She also noted that if she had told Brisa that she would reach a final in Tahiti, she would never have believed her.

"Teahupoo, thank you for inspiring me with your beauty, humbling me with your power. If I had told little Brisa that I would reach the final in Tahiti, I don't think she would have believed me. Just as this small town at the end of the road has shown me the true meaning of unity and simplicity, I constantly remember my gratitude for my own small town of people who support my dreams. Thank you to my family, friends, and Costa Rica, this is for you!" the Costa Rican wrote.
