Undefeated! Costa Rica crowned Central American amputee football champion
Congratulations! The Costa Rican amputee football team were crowned champions at the Central American Amputee Football Championship and played the grand final against El Salvador this past Friday, January 13, at the Carlos Ugalde Álvarez stadium in Ciudad Quesada.
The Costa Ricans beat the Salvadorans 3-0 and were crowned two-time champions of this tournament.
They also achieved a perfect score, remaining undefeated with 12 points in total and 18 goals in favor.
“It was quite difficult from the beginning, everyone who was involved in the process knows how much all this really cost us, and here is the fruit of all this effort,” celebrated Rafael Porras, captain of the Costa Rican Amputee National Team.
El Salvador took second place in the championship, Panama third, followed by Guatemala and finally Honduras.
The national midfielder, Randy Lizano, won the Golden Ball for being the best player of the tournament and having scored 10 goals in total.
