Undefeated! Costa Ricans claim their third consecutive U-19 championship in the Central American volleyball tournament
This past September 15, the Costa Ricans remained undefeated and were crowned three-time champions in the XIV Central American Under 19 Men's Championship of AFECAVOL ( Association of Central American Volleyball Federations), which took place in Santa Rosa de Copán, Honduras.
According to information provided by ICODER, Costa Rica obtained its eighth AFECOL title and the third in a row with a perfect record of 5-0 and 25 points, 15 sets in favor and none against.
The Costa Ricans took this victory by beating El Salvador 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-16) at the Santa Rosa Municipal Gymnasium.
Costa Rica has reached the Central American podium in all its editions since its creation in 1982.
“We knew it would be a tough game because they (El Salvador) had nothing to lose and it could complicate things for us at the end. Since we came back from Costa Rica, we were determined to leave undefeated, with 15 sets for and none against. Thank God all the effort this team put in during training and the camps we did in Costa Rica paid off,” explained Roberto Argüello, Costa Rica’s coach.
