Isaac Rojas breaks national record and becomes the new Weightlifting Champion in the 81 kg youth category at the National Sports Games

Impressive! Athlete Isaac Rojas was crowned national weightlifting champion in the 81 kg youth category, in addition, he surpassed three national records and broke a new record at the National Sports Games on January 21, 2023.

The young man from San Carlos won three gold medals: one in the snatch for lifting 109 kg , one in the clean and jerk with 125 kg , and one for the Olympic total of 234 kg. He also set a new youth record .

This was the first time the young man from San Carlos participated in a Weightlifting competition and in her first National Games, she shared with us how she felt about this great achievement.

"It was my first weightlifting competition and my first time at the national games, so I was kind of trying it out and seeing how I felt. In the end, I liked it quite a lot and I would definitely compete again, but it was very nice to be able to represent San Carlos and have that experience," Rojas said.
The most impressive thing was that the athlete participated in the 81 kg category; the people who register have a weight between 73 kg and 81 kg. Isaac weighed approximately 75 kg when he registered; however, weeks before competing he got sick and lost a little weight, but in the end, he managed to get back to an ideal weight to compete.

The second place in this category went to Jordan Matamoros from Lajuela and the third place went to Santiago Calvo from Cartago .
