Ligia Madrigal hopes to be the first Costa Rican woman to conquer the summit of Mount Everest.

Pride! Athlete Ligia Madrigal hopes to become the first Costa Rican woman to conquer the summit of Mount Everest , the world's highest mountain at 8,849 meters.

The Costa Rican woman posted on her social media that in three months she will take "Pura Vida, Costa Rica" to Nepel, and then from there, to Everest.

"It's a lot of emotions all at once, years of preparation, many mountains, but above all, a lot of effort, discipline and dedication... Because no dream is easy, because no opportunity comes by chance... The countdown has begun," Madrigal wrote.

Ligia has practiced various sports since she was very young; she is an ultratrail mountain runner, mountain biker, and mountaineer. She is also a black belt in Kyokushin karate.

The athlete has twice been crowned champion of the Chirripó race, is the first Costa Rican to run 100 miles (160 km), the first Central American to run 200 miles (320 km) and was a finalist in world adventure championships in Brazil, Portugal and Costa Rica.

The first Costa Rican to climb Mount Everest was Warner Rojas in May 2012, and this year 2023 he plans to conquer the world's highest mountain again.
