Nutrition and Performance: Adrián López's "Simple Math"
"Nutrition is simple math, not complicated. If you do it, you'll get results. If you don't, there will be no results. Period." — Adrián López Prendas.
At Doer Fitness, we welcomed nutritionist Adrián López Prendas (@bestrong_salud) for an exclusive technical talk. This initiative is part of Doer Active, our comprehensive wellness program designed solely for the internal use and well-being of our collaborators.
Adrián shared invaluable lessons to bust myths and take control of our diet based on one premise: consistency is greater than intensity.
- Realism: Your lifestyle dictates whether your goal is achievable.
- Dichotomy: You cannot gain muscle and lose fat at the same time.
- Fundamentals: Water and hydration are the base of the performance pyramid.
1. Defining the Goal and Feasibility
Adrián's starting point is honesty. Before beginning any nutritional plan, we must ask ourselves: "Will my current lifestyle allow me to achieve this goal?" Without this alignment, adherence — which is the real factor for success — becomes impossible.

The Myth of Simultaneousness
One of the biggest mistakes in fitness is trying to gain muscle mass and lose fat simultaneously. Adrián explained that, physiologically, these are opposite processes: one requires a caloric surplus and the other a caloric deficit.
Attempting both at once often leads to stagnation. Science is clear: you have to choose one, focus your efforts, and execute with discipline.
2. Hydration: Water and Fiber
We often overlook the basics in search of miracle supplements. Adrián highlighted that gastrointestinal health (fiber) and hydration (water) are the true drivers of performance.
Water: The Main Performance Factor
In the physical performance pyramid, water is the most decisive factor. According to @bestrong_salud, rigorous attention to hydration can double your training capacity before even considering any other ergogenic aid.
3. Nutrition is Simple Math
Finally, Adrián reminded us that results are a logical consequence of daily actions. There are no secrets or shortcuts. "If you do it, you'll get results. If you don't, there will be no results. Period."
| Nutritional Factor | Priority | Direct Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Hydration | Maximum | Doubles performance and improves recovery. |
| Fiber and Intestinal Health | High | Improves satiety and nutrient absorption. |
| Caloric Balance | Strategic | Determines body composition (Fat/Muscle). |
