Pride! Costa Rican Manolo Campos becomes world powerlifting runner-up in Denmark

Historic! Powerlifting athlete Manolo Campos became world runner-up in the deadlift category at the World Open Powerlifting Championships, and is also the first Costa Rican to achieve such a feat.

The World Championships took place in Viborg, Denmark, from November 14th to 20th. This is the second time Manolo has been crowned world runner-up in Powerlifting.

During the event, the Costa Rican managed to break a world record in the squat category; however, this achievement was annulled by the judges despite protests from other international leaders.

Manolo shared his excitement and pride during this World Cup.

"Second historic silver medal at a World Championship. Many mixed emotions during the Championship. We will continue training and developing the sport in Costa Rica. I hope to see our athletes at world championships; everything is different from any other event," Campos wrote.

The following athletes also attended the World Championships:

  • Michael Fernández in the 93 kg category
  • Andres Soto 93 kg

Zelmira Sandí will accompany them as team manager , and she will be a judge in the 93 kg group A category.
