Want to start doing yoga? Here are 5 poses for beginners

Would you like to start practicing yoga? This discipline offers numerous physical and emotional benefits, including relieving tension and muscle contractions, improving flexibility and posture, and reducing stress, among others.

It is also an activity aimed at harmonizing the body and mind based on three fundamental pillars: meditation, breathing, and postures.

There are various exercises you can do to stretch, relax, and energize your body. Yoga instructor and wellness expert Xuan Lan shares the following poses for beginners:

  • Uttanasana:

With your legs straight and chest lifted, bend forward until you touch the floor, keeping your core engaged and your back straight. If you can't reach, don't worry, try to touch your shins. Benefits: We stretch the entire lower back and posterior chain of the legs.

  • Low Lunge:

Place your feet and hands on the ground and extend your right foot backward while bending your left knee to 90°.

Benefits: This exercise opens the upper back and stretches the hips.

  • Low iron:

This involves doing a plank, but lowering your elbows until they are at side level. This way, your entire body should remain just a few centimeters off the ground. Benefits: an excellent exercise to test your core.

  • Cobra posture:

Lying face down on the floor, extend your arms and lift your upper body, arching your back. Your legs should be fully extended on the floor. Benefits: We strengthen our arms and stretch our abdominal area.

  • Side plate:

From a plank position, shift all your body weight onto your right hand and foot, while lifting your left arm and leg toward the ceiling. Benefits: It helps improve balance by strengthening the abdominal area.
