Costa Rican surfer Leilani McGonagle achieved a remarkable third place in a US competition
The renowned Costa Rican surfer, Leilani McGonagle, started the year with a great third place in the SLO Cal Open tournament at Pismo Beach , which allowed her to obtain 1,825 points in the global ranking.
The young Costa Rican reached the semifinals of the event; however, the American Sawyer Lindblad won the match between the two, finishing 16.03 points to 9.27 points.
Leilani expressed on her social media that it wasn't the result she expected, but that she would still continue working to always give her best. She also congratulated Sawyer on her win.
"3rd in the QS 3000 Track event... not exactly what we wanted, but happy with my effort to achieve this consistency across events. We're still working hard and getting a good result for the rankings," Leilani said.
One of the Costa Rican's biggest dreams is to position herself in the same division as Brisa Hennessy, a fin who is participating in the 2023 World Tour.
