Yokasta Valle makes history: she becomes the first Costa Rican woman to unify titles in world boxing

It's official! Renowned national boxer, Yokasta Valle, won the global title of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) against the Vietnamese Thi Thu Nhi Nguyene.

For the first time in history, a Costa Rican woman has unified two world titles; the boxer holds the International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt and now the World Boxing Organization (WBO) belt in the 105-pound division.

Despite the provocations and attempts to intimidate, the Costa Rican woman did not back down and achieved an impeccable victory.

“We are making history, we are still strong, this is just the beginning,” the boxer said as she stepped out of the ring.

Also, although Yokasta's promoter, Oscar de La Hoya, was unable to attend the event, he expressed his pride and happiness for the athlete through his Twitter account, stating that history is being made in Costa Rica.

This was the first world title unification fight which took place in Costa Rica, at the Heiner Ugalde Sports City in Hatillo, San José, where around 6000 fans were present.
